Understanding DVA Support: Empowering Our Veterans

The Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) provides a specialized support system for those who have served in the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and their families. At CareLinc, we are proud to support our veterans by delivering high-quality, dignified care that honors their service. DVA support is designed to assist with the challenges of transitioning to civilian life, managing service-related injuries, and ensuring a high quality of life through comprehensive health and home care programs.

Core DVA Programs: Tailored for Your Needs

DVA offers several pathways to support, depending on your service history and current health requirements:

  • Veterans’ Home Care (VHC): A program designed to help you remain independent in your own home. It includes domestic assistance, personal care, safety-related home maintenance, and respite care for your family.

  • Community Nursing: For veterans with more complex clinical needs. This provides access to registered nurses who can assist with wound care, medication management, and chronic disease monitoring in the comfort of your home.

  • Rehabilitation Appliances Program (RAP): Access to specialized equipment such as wheelchairs, hospital beds, mobility ramps, and pressure-relieving cushions to improve your safety and mobility.

  • Post-Discharge Support: Specialized assistance for those recently transitioned out of the ADF, focusing on mental health, career transition, and social reconnection.

The CareLinc Commitment to Veterans

We understand that military service comes with unique physical and psychological experiences. Our team is trained to provide “Veteran-Centric” care.

  1. Navigating the Paperwork: The DVA system can be complex. We help you understand which services are covered under your specific DVA Health Card (Gold or White).

  2. Clinical Excellence: Our nurses and support workers are experienced in managing service-related conditions, ensuring your clinical care is precise and respectful.

  3. Coordination with DVA: We act as your liaison, working directly with DVA and your GP to ensure your care plan is approved and implemented without delay.

  4. Family-Focused Respite: We recognize the toll that caregiving can take on families. Our respite services provide your loved ones with a much-needed break while ensuring you are in safe hands.

Commonly Provided Equipment Under RAP:

Independence at home often depends on having the right tools at your fingertips. The Rehabilitation Appliances Program (RAP) is a specialized DVA initiative that provides veterans with a wide range of aids and equipment to assist with mobility, self-care, and safety. At CareLinc, we work alongside Occupational Therapists to help you identify the specific appliances that will enhance your quality of life.

  • Mobility Aids: High-quality walkers, manual and electric wheelchairs, and mobility scooters to keep you moving in your community.

  • Home Safety Modifications: Installation of grab rails, non-slip surfaces, and portable ramps to prevent falls and improve accessibility.

  • Personal Care Equipment: Shower chairs, over-toilet frames, and long-handled reachers to make daily hygiene routines safer and easier.

  • Clinical Bedding & Seating: Pressure-relieving mattresses, electric adjustable beds, and ergonomic lift-recline chairs for maximum comfort and circulation support.

  • Continence & Diabetes Support: Ongoing supply of essential health products and monitoring devices tailored to your clinical requirements.
